Checked October 9, 2026. For personal Google accounts in the United States, Gemini plans currently run from free to $199.99 per month. Google AI Plus starts at $4.99/month, AI Pro costs $19.99/month, and AI Ultra is $99.99/month for the 5× tier or $199.99/month for the 20× tier. Gemini Developer API usage is billed separately. 123

These are U.S. advertised list prices in USD, not euro prices converted into dollars. Your checkout may add applicable state or local sales tax; the final charge depends on your billing address and payment route. Google One billing help The multipliers describe relative compute budgets, not a fixed number of messages. Google says the usage allowance refreshes every five hours until the weekly limit is exhausted. Once that weekly cap is reached, another five-hour refresh does not restore access. Longer conversations, complex prompts and media features consume more of the allowance. 1245
When is an upgrade worth paying for?
AI Plus makes sense if you outgrow the free usage allowance or need 400 GB of storage. The $9.99 2 TB option is primarily a storage upgrade; Google lists the same relative Gemini usage multiplier for both Plus configurations. 12
AI Pro is the least expensive regular U.S. plan that retains Gemini’s Pro model after the October transition. The $19.99 subscription also includes 5 TB of storage and a larger compute allowance. It does not guarantee a particular number of Pro requests. 14
AI Ultra is worth considering only when a concrete Pro limit interrupts your work or you use an Ultra-exclusive feature. The $99.99 and $199.99 tiers raise the compute allowance relative to AI Pro, but neither promises a predictable message count. 15
Several bundled features are particularly relevant to U.S. buyers. Google’s U.S. plan pages list features such as Daily Brief, agentic capabilities in AI Mode, Gmail AI features and some Google Photos benefits as U.S.-only or U.S.-first. Availability still varies by feature and account. 1
New Gemini Agent at Work: not bundled with Google AI Pro or Ultra
Google’s October 8, 2026 announcement does not automatically add an autonomous enterprise agent to a consumer plan. Google Cloud introduced the universal Gemini Agent for multistep work across documents, inboxes, enterprise tools, subagents and routing between Gemini and Anthropic Claude. On October 9, 2026, the new agent remains in private preview for selected enterprise customers. The consumer Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra plans in this U.S. pricing table do not automatically provide access. Google Cloud keynote and feature announcement.
Do not confuse price tags: Gemini Enterprise Business starts at $21 per seat per month. That is a separate business offering, not the $19.99/month personal Google AI Pro subscription, not a verified all-inclusive price for the new agent and not a private-preview entitlement. Enterprise data processing, permissions and potential platform usage charges require separate review. For the detailed access matrix, model-routing caveats and Mac implications, see our Google Gemini Agent at Work 2026 analysis.
Model access changes in October 2026
Google is changing model availability for personal Gemini accounts. For users without an AI subscription, the change begins on October 9, 2026. After it takes effect, Flash-Lite remains available while Flash and Pro are removed. AI Plus keeps Flash-Lite and Flash but loses Pro when its change takes effect; Google says Plus subscribers will receive that date by email. AI Pro and AI Ultra keep all three model tiers. 4
This distinction is easy to miss because Google’s general subscription page can still show access that applies before the transition. The dedicated model-access help page is the relevant source for the announced October change. 14
U.S. student offer: one year of AI Pro free
Eligible U.S. college students 18 or older can claim 12 months of Google AI Pro without a subscription charge, including 5 TB of storage and higher Gemini usage limits. This is not the AI Plus student plan offered in Germany and many other markets. The deadline to redeem the U.S. offer is December 31, 2026. A valid payment method and student verification are required. Unless canceled, it renews at $19.99/month, plus any applicable tax, after the first year. 67
Eligibility is tied to your institution’s country or region, not the language displayed in Gemini. A student enrolled at a German institution should check the local AI Plus offer rather than assuming the U.S. AI Pro promotion applies. Google: Back to School 2026 · Official student offer terms.
Gemini API pricing
A consumer Google AI plan is not an API flat rate. If you use Gemini in an app, agent or automation, Gemini Developer API usage is metered separately. Google publishes API list prices in U.S. dollars. 3
| Model | Standard input | Standard output | Condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini 3.8 Flash | $0.75 / 1M | $3.75 / 1M | Introductory rate through Dec 31, 2026 |
| Gemini 3.8 Flash from Jan 1, 2027 | $1.50 / 1M | $7.50 / 1M | Standard rate |
| Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview | $2.00 / 1M | $12.00 / 1M | Prompt up to 200k tokens |
| Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview | $4.00 / 1M | $18.00 / 1M | Prompt over 200k tokens |
| Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite | $0.25 / 1M | $1.50 / 1M | Text/image/video input; audio input is $0.50 |
Output pricing includes thinking tokens. Gemini 3.8 Flash also has lower Batch and Flex rates for eligible workloads: through the end of 2026, both are $0.375 input and $1.875 output per million tokens. 38
Gemini 3.8 Flash doubles in price in 2027
The current Gemini 3.8 Flash standard rate is explicitly introductory. Through December 31, 2026, it is $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens. On January 1, 2027, both rates double to $1.50 and $7.50. 38
Three API cost examples
These examples are token charges only. They exclude Search grounding, Maps, cache storage, media generation, taxes and other add-ons.
| Monthly workload | 3.8 Flash through Dec 2026 | 3.8 Flash from Jan 2027 | 3.1 Pro Preview ≤200k |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5M input + 1M output | $7.50 | $15.00 | $22.00 |
| 50M input + 10M output | $75.00 | $150.00 | $220.00 |
| 500M input + 100M output | $750.00 | $1,500.00 | $2,200.00 |
For Batch- or Flex-eligible Gemini 3.8 Flash workloads, the token portion is half the standard 2026 rate. 3
Calculate an API budget including Google Search grounding
Token rates alone understate the cost of some research agents. Google bills Google Search grounding by the search queries executed, not simply by the number of Gemini prompts. Its API price table lists 5,000 included queries each month, followed by $14 per 1,000 queries. A single Gemini prompt may trigger multiple searches.
This arithmetic-only example uses the Python standard library and makes no external requests. It excludes cache and cache storage, Batch/Flex, taxes, and other tools. It assumes the entire monthly search allowance is still available:
python3 - <<'PY'
def usd(input_m, output_m, searches=0, free_queries=5000, next_year=False):
input_rate, output_rate = (1.50, 7.50) if next_year else (0.75, 3.75)
token_cost = input_m * input_rate + output_m * output_rate
search_cost = max(0, searches - free_queries) / 1000 * 14.0
return round(token_cost, 2), round(search_cost, 2), round(token_cost + search_cost, 2)
for label, future in [("2026", False), ("2027", True)]:
tokens, grounding, total = usd(5, 1, searches=50000, next_year=future)
print(label, "tokens:", tokens, "search:", grounding, "total USD:", total)
PY
For 5 million input tokens, 1 million output tokens and 50,000 Google Search queries, the estimated total is $637.50 through December 2026 or $645.00 from January 2027, given the published standard token tiers and a full 5,000-query allowance. This is not observed spending. Real agents must log billable search queries and any additional tool charges.
Search grounding can cost more than the model tokens
For Gemini 3.x models, Google currently includes 5,000 Google Search queries per month, then charges $14 per 1,000 queries. One request to Gemini can produce more than one Search query, and Google bills each query performed. 3
If a workload triggers 50,000 Search queries in a month, 45,000 remain after the free allowance. At $14 per 1,000, that is $630 in Search grounding charges before counting model tokens.
Which plan makes sense?
For personal use, AI Plus is the inexpensive paid option. AI Pro is the practical step up when you need the Pro model, 5 TB of storage or the broader bundle. Ultra only makes sense when its higher limits or premium features justify a much larger monthly bill.
For software and agent workloads, consumer-plan pricing is not the main cost driver. The relevant numbers are API tokens, caching, tool calls and success rate per task. If a production workload uses Gemini 3.8 Flash, its 2027 budget should already use the higher standard rate.
How to choose
Start with the free plan if you use Gemini occasionally. Upgrade to Plus for a larger usage budget or storage; choose at least AI Pro if you need the Pro model after the October change. For Ultra, check whether your actual weekly usage warrants the additional spend. Developers should compare cost per completed task, including caching and tool calls, rather than treating a consumer subscription as API access. Gemini 3.8 Flash budgets need to account for the announced higher standard rate from January 2027. 438
Sources and verification
Consumer plans and account limits are taken from U.S.-specific Google pages, while Gemini API list rates are documented in USD by Google for developers. Calculations are examples, not measured API bills. Prices, eligibility and promotions should be checked at the actual account checkout before purchase.
